Off the Wall: De-Framing Contemporary Miniature Painting

"The artists in 'Off the Wall' take a painting off the wall and return it to the manuscript, or position it in such a manner that it should not be framed... Viewers need to look closely at all of the works to enter into the act of viewing that collapses the space between the eyes and the surface of the picture... In this manner, the eight artists emphasize the "paintings" as miniature; this microscopic level of viewing that is required to really see their works is indeed one quality associated with the highly detailed "miniature painting" of the Mughal School."
